JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant Certified functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The Medical Assistant certified performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice that assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure the clinic/office runs smoothly

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Room Patients and intake to include medications history and vital signs. Complete orders as per provider:
    • Ensuring patients have all appropriate surveys completed or providing them with blank surveys
    • Enter samples into appropriate logs and ensure EPIC documentation/orders completed.
    • Print appropriate forms and assemble folders for new patient groups.
  • In basket messages to include:
    • Routing messages and faxes to appropriate staff or providers
    • Calling patients with results or information as directed by the providers.
    • FMLA/Work excuse s Home health and DME
  • Review future clinic schedules call patients for upcoming appointments and procedures
    • Clinic Pre-Work: Reviews charts and gathers imaging or documentation for upcoming visits.
    • Explaining group appointments to patients.
    • Calling patients to confirm upcoming appointments.
    • Calling patients as directed by providers for requests for late notice reschedules.
  • Prior authorizations for medication
    • Initiate and complete prior authorization for prescribed medications.
    • Follow up on completed prior authorizations to obtain approval status and coordinate with provider results of PAs
  • Clean and stock rooms. Monitor for supply and medication expirations dates. Unbox ordered supplies and confirm delivery amounts. Inventory and track samples in accordance with Duke Policy
  • Cover Urology as needed for callouts/Vacations
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant programaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation required.
  • Certification by AAMA AMT NHA-CCMA NCMA or ARMA required. Please specify on resume which certification you have certification number and expiration date.
  • BLS required
