Job Description

Control Systems Engineer

Location: Greater Cleveland Area

About the Role:

A high-growth specialty contractor is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to lead innovative building automation and integrated systems across advanced cleanroom and controlled environment projects. As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, this position will shape and optimize automated systems from concept through commissioning. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge with strategic collaboration skills, working closely with divisional leaders and project stakeholders to ensure systems are efficient, scalable, and meet demanding performance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Systems Design & Engineering Leadership

  • Drive the full lifecycle of control system design including panel layouts, wiring diagrams, instrumentation specs, and network architecture.
  • Develop control logic and HMI functionality using PLC and DDC platforms across various protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus).
  • Design and tailor bespoke solutions for unique facilities, such as contamination-controlled areas, humidity-free zones, radiation-protected rooms, and intricate mechanical systems requiring specialized access.
  • Standardize and continuously refine engineering documentation, specs, and processes across all projects.

Project Integration & Execution

  • Partner with divisional leaders and project managers to align system designs with schedule and budget requirements.
  • Interface with subcontractors and vendors to ensure proper installation, compliance, and performance to spec.
  • Review and validate control system submittals, identify integration risks, and coordinate across trades to avoid clashes.

Startup, Commissioning & Optimization

  • Lead system startup and commissioning in the field, ensuring functionality, safety, and seamless operation across platforms.
  • Create and implement commissioning plans that meet quality assurance benchmarks and industry best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and calibrate systems during handoff, validating performance through comprehensive functional testing.
  • Deliver hands-on training to client teams and provide long-term support on system maintenance and optimization.

Strategic & Technical Development

  • Research new technologies in control system components, networking, and automation tools to recommend future enhancements.
  • Support sales and business development teams with accurate system capability insights during project scoping and proposals.
  • Build relationships with key suppliers and stay current on vendor offerings to ensure competitive and cutting-edge solutions.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering with a focus on controls or automation.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, programming, and commissioning control systems for commercial or industrial environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of HVAC automation, BAS, and integrated systems.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings, programming platforms (e.g., Siemens, Delta, Johnson Controls), and relevant software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Familiarity with cleanroom or critical environment standards is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Why Join Us:

  • Impactful work supporting specialized, future-focused construction projects across the country.
  • High autonomy and leadership exposure in a collaborative, solutions-driven culture.
  • Strong commitment to innovation, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits with significant room for career growth.
