Job Description

The Database Administrator is responsible for managing the SQL Server Enterprise Database management system on the Microsoft Windows Server platform hosted on our physical servers in a 24/7 environment. The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, ongoing maintenance, backup/recovery, security of the database, with an emphasis on data warehousing and data analytics.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for maintaining and supporting all Production/Test/Development MS SQL Servers, ensuring that

database code meets company standards for readability, reliability, and performance

• Install and configure new SQL Servers, on physical hardware and virtualized testing environments

• Experience with SQL Server performance optimization, determining the most effective way to increase performance

including server configuration changes or index/query changes

• Proactively identify performance gains (index strategies, TempDB configuration, partitioning, compression, etc.)

• Proficiency in SQL Server High Availability clusters and replication, especially regarding backup/recovery, disaster

recovery, and planning

• Monitor scheduled database and application backups

• Audit/approve change requests to existing tables, stored procedures, indices, constraints, triggers, and views as

well as audit/approve new entries

• Troubleshoot and resolve SQL Server outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends

• Assist with production system release management, collaborating with Software Configuration Manager and

perations team to plan and execute production releases, and when necessary, coordinate release reversion

• Monitor our production, test and development SQL Servers and keep our system free from errors and outages

• Develop infrastructure to support a revenue-generating data warehouse model using SSIS and other tools

• Clean and prepare data and create pipelines between production databases and the data warehouse database

Qualifications

• Understand complex software engineering principles to be able to discuss with clarity pros/cons of various

design/tool choices

• Multitask, prioritize, show initiative, and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Experience

• Experience with data warehousing, SSIS, and Microsoft Power BI

• Familiarity with GIT and Red Gate Source Control

• Familiarity with Atlassian products including BitBucket, Jira, and Confluence

• Ability to write and integrate PowerShell scripts

• Experience using SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer and other monitoring tools
