Salary: $94,154.64 - $139,960.13 Annually Location : 10 North Grove Street Eustis Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202300105 Department: Events & Communication Opening Date: 05/30/2025 Job Characteristics The City of Eustis is seeking a trustworthy, responsible individual who, under the direction of the City Manager, plans, oversees and directs the operations and services of special events and programs for the City, particularly special events and programs that generate tourism and economic development activity. The employee works with considerable independence and initiative within established policies and guidelines. This position is supervisory in nature and recommendations on subordinate personnel decisions, including hiring and firing, carry particular weight in the decision-making process. The Director of Tourism & Communications also supervises activities related to the positive promotion of City services, activities, and public communications. Examples of Machines, Tools and Equipment Used: General office equipment; variety of equipment, materials and supplies used for events and programs Supervision Received: City Manager Essential Job Functions Supervises the events development team, the daily operations of the Clifford House Museum and provides oversight to public relations; Directs and participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of goals and objectives, priorities, policies and procedures; Reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures for improving organizational performance, enhancing services and meeting goals; identifies and resolves problems and/or issues; Plans special events and programs such as festivals, concerts, parties, exhibitions, shows, etc.; Oversees the continued development and daily operations of the Clifford House Museum; Negotiates and administers related contracts and ensures contractual obligations are met; Prepares, manages and coordinates the departmental budget; prepares forecasts of necessary funds for staffing, materials and supplies; presents and justifies programs, operations and activities; monitors and approves expenditures; monitors and records related expenses and revenues, billing and account reconciliations; Oversees the staff development of sponsorships, grants and supplemental funding sources for special events and programs; Works with the public and other City Departments to coordinate services, materials and support systems needed for events, programs, and the Museum operations; Coordinates Mayor and Commissioners for speaking engagements during events; Serves as Events spokesperson at various meetings and to the press and media, if required; Fosters relationships with local press and media to expand community knowledge of City functions; Maintains a close working relationship with representatives of county and state agencies and with adjacent cities to coordinate and reduce duplication of event efforts and to promote the City's interests; coordinates with citizen groups and not-for-profit organizations; Identifies complimentary public relations opportunities, providing information and resources for press releases, on-site media interest, and social media content; Works to maintain positive public perception in the surrounding community through the continued development of brand recognition; Actively monitors social media related to the City of Eustis assisting with timely and appropriate responses when necessary; Approves final advertising campaigns including design and marketing strategies; Coordinates appropriate staffing for setting up and taking down of decorations, displays, tables, chairs, equipment, etc., before and after scheduled activities; Composes post-event evaluation reports including analysis of funding, staffing, event success/impact, etc.; Presents to Eustis Commission and other organizations to promote City activities and events; Develops and recommends new programs and events; as well as city-wide marketing and promotional strategies; Supervises Public Relations staff; Assists the City in the preparation for and aftermath of a major emergency such as a hurricane or other storm or disaster, as needed; Other related duties as required. Requirements Knowledge of special events programs and activities; knowledge of special events planning and coordination; knowledge of various public interest and civic groups; Marketing and Graphic Design knowledge - particularly the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator); Significant ability to develop and stimulate community participation and positive interest in special events; ability to manage, assign and direct the work of others; ability to work independently; ability to work with the general public of all ages tactfully and effectively; ability to maintain records and prepare reports; ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, some weekends and holidays; ability to remain at a city work shelter, before, during and after a hurricane or other storm or disaster, if asked; Strong organizational skills and excellent communicating, negotiating and creative thinking skills. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Organizational Management, Marketing or related field, supplemented by five (5) years of experience in marketing and coordinating/managing community special events are required. Certified Event Planner Designation, preferred. Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required. Working Hours: Generally, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, due to the nature of the position, a significant amount of the employee's time will be spent working outside of those hours (including: nights, weekends, and holidays). Flexible availability is a requirement for this position. Supplemental Information Physical Demands: This is continual light work and occasional heavy work. Requires walking and standing for long periods of time; frequent stooping, bending and reaching; lifting up to 50 pounds and carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight, hearing and speech; working in adverse environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) for long periods of time.
