Job Description
**COMMUNICATION REGARDING TEST INFORMATION WILL BE SENT VIA EMAIL & TEXT** PURPOSE AND NATURE OF WORK Position is primarily responsible for the SKILLED operation of a
Gradall, Excavator, Bulldozer, Backhoe and Tandem Dump Truck. Depending on area of assignment, may also operate other heavy equipment. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Possession of a Class A commercial driver's license with airbrake and combination endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver's License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to appointment.
APPRENTICESHIP Certain positions in this class are assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6. This requires the employee to complete initial and ongoing training requirements established by the Public Works Department, Drainage Division, within two (2) years for continued employment.
TYPE OF EXAMINATION: Examination will be a performance test mostly on the Excavator, Gradall, Bulldozer, but will include the Backhoe and Tandem Dump Truck.
