Working under medical direction, you will oversee the full testing processfrom patient preparation to monitoring and documentationensuring accurate and timely results.
As the primary technologist for treadmill stress testing, your responsibilities include preparing patients by reviewing medical histories, explaining procedures, and ensuring they feel informed and comfortable. During the test, youll monitor heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure, and any ischemic or arrhythmic changes, while handling all aspects of the equipment setup, calibration, and troubleshooting to ensure accuracy. Youll work closely with attending physicians to coordinate any needed support.
In addition to exercise stress tests, youll assist in performing stress echocardiograms and pharmacologic stress tests. Occasionally, you may also support ambulatory ECG monitor patch testing and interpretation, working in collaboration with other team members. Beyond patient testing, your role involves assisting in scheduling and patient communication about appointments, communicating with referring providers, maintaining accurate records, preparing detailed reports, and contributing to lab advancements by updating methodologies and creating protocols as needed. This position is ideal for a skilled technologist seeking a high level of responsibility within a collaborative cardiology team.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $47.50 - $59.34 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description The Clinical Pharmacology Research Program in the Division of Cardiology conducts research on the impact of nicotine, tobacco and cannabis use on public health. The research portfolio is varied and includes clinical trials, pharmacokinetic and observational studies. The Division of Clinical Pharmacology's research focuses on the human pharmacology of nicotine in relation to pathogenesis of, and individual differences in vulnerability to tobacco-related disease, and the use of pharmacologic data as a basis for public health policies to prevent and reduce such disease.
Required Qualifications - EKG Technician Certification
- Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science plus two years of experience in the kind of work to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
- A minimum of two years experience working as an EKG technician
- Knowledge of Basic medical terminology
- Ability to work independently in an acute care hospital-based exercise stress laboratory
- Knowledge of ECG interpretation QRST morphology
- Knowledge of ischemic responses to exercise
- Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias and which ones are potentially lethal
- Knowledge of important history and physical examination findings including which ones preclude safe exercise testing
- Knowledge of how to take manual blood pressures
- Knowledge of contraindications to exercise testing
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work with a diverse patient population
- Adequate strength to physically support patients who are exercising
Preferred Qualifications - 5 years of experience in a hospital environment
License/Certification - EKG Technician Certification
