Job Overview The City of El Cajon is seeking enthusiastic, dedicated individuals to join our Parks & Recreation team. This role is vital to maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and welcoming atmosphere of our parks and facilities. The position involves overseeing daily operations, including opening and closing City parks, interacting with the public, enforcing park rules, and performing light maintenance.
Responsibilities: As a Park Attendant, you will play a key role in the following tasks:
- Opening and closing park gates, restrooms, and facilities on time.
- Inspecting park amenities such as playgrounds, restrooms, and equipment for safety and cleanliness.
- Performing routine maintenance, including trash removal and cleaning.
- Enforcing park rules and ensuring the safety and well-being of park patrons.
- Responding to emergencies and addressing concerns in a professional and decisive manner.
- Interacting with the public, providing excellent customer service, and promoting a positive atmosphere.
- Driving a City vehicle between park sites as needed.

- Assist with special events and other Parks & Recreation programs.
- Work closely with supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
- Develop positive relationships with park patrons and City staff.

Qualification Guidelines Desired Skills/Qualifications - Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow directions.
- Strong problem-solving skills, especially in emergency situations.
- Willingness to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Possess a valid Class C California driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
Education and Experience - High school diploma or equivalent required.
- College coursework in parks management, recreation, or a related field is a plus.
- One year of experience in parks and recreation or a similar role.
- Experience working with the public is preferred.
Special Requirements - Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Willingness to use a personal vehicle for commuting between work sites if necessary.

This position does not receive any benefits other than participation in the appropriate retirement plan: Nationwide or *CalPERS. El Cajon is not a member of the Social Security System, but 1.45% of salary must be contributed to Medicare.
Nationwide Retirement Plan : The City contributes 7.5% of employee salary to the Nationwide retirement plan in lieu of social security. Most "Part-Time / Seasonal / Temporary" employees will be enrolled in this plan.
*California Public Employees Retirement System (Only available to those employees who qualify for membership): Effective January 2013, the employee will pay the full required contribution.
