Job Description

Supervisory Immigration Officer

This position is located in Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate, HQFDNS Front Office, National Security and Public Safety Division. As a Supervisory Immigration Officer, you will safeguard the integrity of the nation's lawful immigration system by leading agency efforts to combat fraud, detect national security and public safety threats, and maximize law enforcement and Intelligence Community partnerships.

Locations: Camp Springs, MD and Williston, VT.

This position is not remote. Telework is eligible as determined by the agency policy. Occasional travel may be required for this position.

This position is permanent, full-time and may be subject to shift work.

Serve as a supervisor under a Branch Chief within the Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate (FDNS) and report to the Branch Chief and Deputy Division Chief.

Direct subordinates in the conduct of inquiries (e.g., systems checks, biometric evaluations, screening and vetting).

Direct FDNS Immigration Officers and staff in the development of USCIS anti-fraud, national security, public safety, and intelligence procedures and guidance.

Coordinate fraud, public safety, and national security initiatives with local, regional, and national USCIS offices, as well as other state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies and task forces.

Perform administrative, human resource management, and management functions.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.

Supervisory/Managerial Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a twelve-month probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.

Motor Vehicle Operation: This position requires operation of a motor vehicle. You must possess a current valid driver's license.

Qualifications: The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 07/24/2025. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 07/24/2025.

GS-14: You qualify at the GS-14 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:

Providing comprehensive technical oversight and operational guidance to staff who carry out screening activities, including against law enforcement or intelligence data sources, or who investigate immigration benefit requests;

Implementing and monitoring national security or public safety program goals, to suggest corrective action in response to identified trends in national security or public safety or changes in immigration-related legislation and policies;

Leading teams in addressing immigration policy and procedural issues that strengthen national security or public safety; and

Fostering relationships with government officials from law enforcement agencies or Intelligence Community partners to support national security, public safety, or immigration programs.

Education: There is no educational substitution at this grade level.

Training: If you have not already done so, you will be required to attend the residential, paid FDNS Officer Basic Training course. Additionally, if you have not already done so, you will be required to attend the residential, paid USCIS BASIC Officer training program, lasting six weeks, at a USCIS training facility. Both trainings must be successfully completed according to the standards of the agency. Failure to do so will be grounds for mandatory removal from the position. Such failure will result in either reassignment to a different position, demotion or separation by appropriate procedures.

The selectee will also be required to attend and pass a supervisory training course as required by the agency (if not previously attended).
